Industry Minister Kosit Panpiemras has decided to terminate 1.8- billion-baht Bangkok Fashion City (BFC) project by March 2007.

Administration explained that the results from this scheme were unsatisfactory and there were also complaints of corruption and fraud.

However, shoes, leather goods, garments, textiles and jewellery industry believe they can keep the project operational on their own.

Over 200 footwear companies have decided to come together to create a capital fund that can be used to upgrade machinery in small and medium enterprises.

After assessing the system, fashion industry will once again propose to the government to continue the funding.

Co-operation among industry players will be essential to bring about the changes that Government demands.
