Abstract
Woven pile fabrics may be found in upholstery, apparel, andindustrial applications. This fabric formation technology may produces a variety of pile heights and densities appropriate to the end use. The development ofwoven velour fabrics for upholstery has become a specialized competency withfew training possibilities outside the machinery manufacturers or in housetraining at the few companies who hold the experience and expertise. Thisresearch looks at the fundamentals of pile weaving and in particular, the stepsin producing a woven velour for the high performance standards of automotiveand other transportation upholstery. This research should be helpful tostudents, academics and industry as it provides information on the design andmanufacturing processes in the US market providing examples for technicalspecifications and simulations.
