  • India's Cabinet has approved NBS rates for P&K fertilisers for Kharif 2026, with a budget of ₹41,533.81 crore (~$5 billion), up ₹4,317 crore from 2025.
  • The move aims to ensure steady supply of DAP and NPKS fertilisers at affordable prices and support farmers during the key sowing season.
  • It also reinforces the government's commitment to subsidy-led price stability.
The Indian Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Department of Fertilizers to fix Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) rates for the Kharif 2026 season (from April 1 to September 30, 2026) on Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilisers, in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The tentative budgetary requirement for the season is approximately ₹41,533.81 crore (~$5 billion), which is around ₹4,317 crore (~$0.52 billion) higher than the ₹37,216.15 crore (~$4.48 billion) allocated for Kharif 2025, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers said in a press release.

The government stated that the subsidy on P&K fertilisers, including DAP and NPKS grades, will be provided based on approved rates to ensure smooth availability to farmers at affordable prices.

Under the NBS scheme, implemented from April 1, 2010, 28 grades of P&K fertilisers are made available to farmers at subsidised rates through manufacturers and importers.

The decision comes in view of recent trends in international prices of fertilisers and key inputs such as urea, DAP, MOP and sulphur. The subsidy will be provided to fertiliser companies as per notified rates to maintain supply and price stability for farmers.
