AATCC declares winners of C2C Merchandising Competition

AATCC, the Association of Textile, Apparel & Materials Professionals, announced the winners of the 2019 Concept 2 Consumer Merchandising Competition. It had received 32 entries with 61 students participating from 9 colleges and universities. AATCC provides test method development, quality control materials and professional networking for its members.

For the competition, students were challenged to showcase their skills in business, marketing, and merchandising by conducting a business model, determining a marketing strategy, and creating merchandising tools and products for an integrated new apparel line both fashionable and functional for use in the rain, focused and inspired by a specific outdoor activity, according to a press release by AATCC.

The first place in the competition, went to ‘Stormy’, an apparel line developed by Lilly Kuropat, Chloe Kehn, Meaghan Evans, and Vyvian Le from Oregon State University. The winners will receive cash prize of $1000 from AATCC, $500 and a jacket from WL Gore and Associates Inc.

The second place went to ‘Zaa Zaa’ by Megan Daniels from Central Michigan University. She will receive cash prizes of $750 from AATCC and $350 from WL Gore and Associates Inc.

Apparel line ‘North Star’ by Austin Keske, Xiomara Bustamante, and Olivia Harband from Oregon State University, found place in the ‘Honorable Mention’ list. The students will receive cash prizes of $250 from AATCC, and $150 from WL Gore and Associates Inc.

The panel of judges for the competition consisted of: Alan Biggerstaff, senior manager apparel QA/Colour/Textile at Walmart; Lauren Dalton, senior manager, quality assurance at QVC; Michele Leckington, fabrics at WL Gore & Associates, Inc; Craig Lindemann, fabrics—new product development at WL Gore & Associates Inc; Christina Rapa, Sitka Gear/textile specialist at WL Gore & Associates Inc; Shannon Redell, senior materials research developer at Columbia Sportswear; Tejada Odalis, director of raw material quality & technical at Wacoal America Inc; Scott Wagner, fabric manager, PD&S at Levi Strauss & Co.
