The BPDB's data reveals that the national grid saw an addition of approximately 3,343 MW, primarily through the import of electricity from India and the establishment of new local power plants. Additionally, about 1,400 MW was contributed by off-grid captive and solar power sources, according to Bangladeshi media reports.
The installed grid-connected power generation capacity in Bangladesh stood at 25,951 MW as of December 30, 2023, marking an increase from 22,608 MW in 2022, as per BPDB. BERC's figures indicate that captive power generation rose by 1,379 MW, totalling 4,760 MW in 2023, up from 3,381 MW in the previous year.
Sreda's statistics highlight a significant growth in solar power generation capacity, which reached 1,200 MW in 2023, up from 700 MW in 2022. This includes 366.76 MW of off-grid and 601.02 MW of on-grid solar power. Additionally, the country's hydroelectric capacity, which stands at 230 MW, is also considered in Sreda's figures.
