The budgetary proposals of the Pakistan ministry of textiles for fiscal 2017-18 were cleared by the National Assembly Standing Committee on Textile Industry. The committee lauded the efforts of the ministry to encourage cotton growth using modern techniques. They however, also recommended that awareness among farmers of these techniques should be done.

"The committee also suggested that the government should discourage setting up of sugar mills, particularly in cotton growing areas, to ensure that cotton farming was not impacted," Pakistani media reports informed.

It also recommended providing incentives to cotton farmers to encourage growth of cotton among farmers. (AR)
