Gherzi, an independent, global firm of consultants, is suggesting setting up of a European supply chain for half masks to protect against particles. Under the banner 'Fight – Covid 19', Gherzi and Sporlastic Orthopaedics recommend setting up a production process for FFP2 filtering half masks in accordance with EN 149 with goal of 750,000 half masks per day.

According to Gherzi, the production of FFP2 protective masks has three challenges—procurement of the appropriate material, high-volume production of the masks, and coordination of both means including processing and distribution.

Providing solutions to these challenges, the organisations say that they have the necessary material tested and approved by DEKRA according to specification EN149.  They have production capacity of 4.2 million masks per week from week 15 from the date of start of production. They also have the experts. Fight bundles the expertise of 4 companies at present, and 12 more will onboard during scale up.

Half mask will be produced as SMMS nonwoven on Reifenhäuser Reicofil lines, the organisations said in a statement. Further, approval and labelling would be done according to the specifications of the German Federal Ministry of Health.
