China reports £63.45 bn FDI inflow in first 5 months of 2023

The first five months of the year witnessed a 0.1 per cent year-on-year (YoY) increase in actual use of foreign direct investment (FDI) in China, as per the country’s ministry of commerce. The actual use FDI inflow was reported at 574.81 billion yuan (around £63.45 billion).

However, when measured in US dollar terms, the inflow saw a 5.6 per cent YoY decrease, amounting to $84.35 billion (about £60.26 billion). By sector, manufacturing experienced a 5.9 per cent annual rise in FDI.

Among the major contributors to FDI during January–April 2023, France, the UK, Japan, and South Korea witnessed impressive growth rates of 567.3 per cent, 323.7 per cent, 68.1 per cent, and 30.7 per cent respectively, on a yearly basis.
