The country’s aviation sector handled nearly 7.3 million tonnes of cargo and mail from January to October this year. International routes transported approximately 2.93 million tonnes of cargo and mail, marking a substantial 48.5 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2019, said Shang Kejia, a CAAC official.
China’s industrial transformation, strengthened Belt and Road cooperation, and the rapid growth of cross-border e-commerce are the reasons behind this surge in air cargo.
The average daily cargo flights over the past week were 752, a growth of 70.9 per cent year-on-year, and internationally 498 flights, 100.4 per cent YoY growth, Shang added.
The CAAC looking ahead, is focussed on enhancing the allocation of air traffic rights, refining route and flight management policies, and advancing cost reduction and efficiency improvements in air logistics.
