China's power consumption surged by 5.7 per cent year on year in July, reaching 939.6 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), according to recent data from the National Energy Administration. In July, the primary industry saw a 1.5 per cent rise in power consumption, while the secondary industry, which includes manufacturing and industrial activities, recorded a 5 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
The tertiary sector, which encompasses services and other non-industrial activities, experienced the highest growth, with power consumption rising by 7.8 per cent.
Over the first seven months of 2024, China's total power consumption increased by 7.7 per cent, nearing 5.6 trillion kWh, according to Chinese media reports.
