China's power consumption shows 5% YoY increase in 2023

China’s electricity usage, a critical economic activity indicator, rose by 5 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in the first half of 2023, as per the National Energy Administration (NEA).

In total, the country consumed over 4.3 trillion kilowatt-hours. Primary industries led the surge with a 12.1 per cent increase in power usage, while secondary and tertiary sectors saw an increase of 4.4 per cent and 9.9 per cent respectively.

Residential power use also increased by 1.3 per cent, reaching 619.7 billion kilowatt-hours during the first six months.
