China noted a steady increase in its electricity consumption in August 2023, as per the latest data from the National Energy Administration. The figures highlight a 3.9 per cent year-on-year (YoY) rise, reaching 886.1 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), owing significantly to a surge in industrial power demand.A sector-wise breakdown shows primary industries noting an 8.6 per cent uptick, while secondary and tertiary sectors reported increases of 7.6 and 6.6 per cent, respectively. However, there was a considerable decline of 9.9 per cent in residential power usage.
Cumulatively, from January to August, there has been a 5 per cent increase in power consumption compared to the same period last year, amounting to 6.08 trillion kWh.
