Himachal Pradesh legislative assembly has unanimously approved the Constitution (122nd Amendment) Bill pertaining to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on the first day of the monsoon session. The state is the fourth to ratify the Bill after Assam, Bihar and Jharkhand. The GST Bill needs to be ratified by at least half of the state legislatures.

The motion for ratification of the Bill was moved by chief minister Virbhadra Singh in the state assembly. It was approved unanimously without any discussion.

Singh told mediapersons that the GST Bill was first brought by the Congress-led UPA government. He termed it as the single biggest tax reform which would help in trade, services and commerce.

“Himachal Pradesh, which is a consumer state, will be benefited by the bill. It will help in boosting trade and commerce once it was implemented in the country. All trade and commerce bodies in the state have hailed the bill,” Singh said. (RKS)
