Resetting the India-UK Joint Economic Trade Committee (JETCO) to support implementation of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) signed in July this year and a new joint investment in the Climate Technology Start-up Fund were part of the outcomes of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s ongoing visit to India.

The Fund is a strategic initiative under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the UK government and the State Bank of India for supporting innovative entrepreneurs in sectors like climate technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

Starmer and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi looked forward to the ratification of the CETA as early as possible, a joint statement released by the two sides said.

“This agreement will reduce import costs between the two countries, create new employment opportunities for youth, boost trade, and benefit both our industries and consumers,” Modi said in a press statement.

An Offshore Wind Taskforce, a India-UK Connectivity and Innovation Centre and a India-UK Joint Centre for AI were set up by the two sides, a release from the Indian Prime Minister’s Office said.

The second phase of the UK-India Critical Minerals Supply Chain Observatory was launched and a Critical Minerals Industry Guild was established to secure resilient supply chains and promote green technologies.

Both the leaders reiterated their intent to explore possibilities for working together through the Global Clean Power Alliance (GCPA).

The inaugural meeting of the reconstituted India-UK CEO Forum was also held during the visit.
