Indian minister of commerce and industry Piyush Goyal and US trade representative Katherine Tai co-chaired the meeting.
Tai welcomed India’s G20 presidency and said the United States looks forward to working together in the Trade and Investment Working Group.
She noted that the G20 can be a useful forum for initiating constructive dialogue and seeking to enhance coordination and cooperation among member countries on global trade issues, according to a joint statement issued at the conclusion of the dialogue.
India highlighted its interest in restoration of its beneficiary status under the US Generalised System of Preferences programme. The United States noted that this could be considered, as warranted, in relation to the eligibility criteria determined by the US Congress, the statement said.
Both sides also exchanged views on potential targeted tariff reductions and agreed to enhance engagement through the TPF and ICT Working Group on policies affecting digital trade.
