This achievement also marks 30 straight months of best-ever monthly freight loading for IR. The cumulative freight loading from April 2022 to February 2023 has been 1367.49 MT, which is an incremental loading of 88.65 MT and a growth of 6.93 per cent over the same period last year, the ministry of railways said in a press release.
IR reported an incremental loading of 3.18 MT in coal and 0.66 MT in balance of other goods, 0.28 MT in port of loading (POL) and 0.27 MT in container.
IR has achieved this feat through sustained efforts to increase the supply of coal to powerhouses in close coordination with the ministries of power and coal. The loading of coal (both domestic and imported) to powerhouses has increased by 3.39 MT in January, with 45.63 MT of coal being moved to powerhouses, as against 42.24 MT last year, representing a growth of 8.02 per cent.
The cumulative freight net tonne kilometres (NTKMs) from April 2022 to February 2023 has been 82 billion, representing a growth of 10.81 per cent over the same period last year. The sustained efforts of IR to increase the supply of coal to powerhouses have been one of the key features of the freight performance in the month of February.
Cumulatively, in the first eleven months of the year, IR has loaded more than 79.69 MT extra coal to Power Houses as compared to same period of last year, with a growth of more than 15.44 per cent.
