Nepal govt may amend acts related to textiles

The Nepal government is likely to make necessary amendments in the acts related to the textiles industry, said Shankar Koirala, secretary at the ministry of industry, at the Nepal Yarn and Textile Expo 2017. He further said that in order to promote the textiles industry of Nepal, the government is willing to collaborate with the related organisations.

The textiles industry has been successful in creating employment for over 50,000 locals, a majority of whom are women. At present there are four textiles industries in the country with around Rs 10 billion investment, said Pawan Golyan, chairperson of the Federation of Nepalese Commerce of Chamber and Industry (FNCCI).

Domestic industries like textiles require investment for development and contribution in country's growth, said Shekhar Golchha, senior vice-president of FNCCI.

The five-day expo is being hosted by Nepal Yarn Producers' Association in collaboration with Triveni Spinning Mills Pvt Ltd & Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd in Kathmandu to promote domestic textile products. The expo showcases various range of textile products like cloths, knitted & hosiery items including machineries. There are 55 stalls displaying local textile items. The event will conclude on September 19. (RR)
