Laundry experts at Soap and Detergent Association (SDA), which represents the nation's cleaning products industry, have published their latest 'Product Fact Sheet: Laundry Detergents', which is available at no cost on SDA's website.

The laundry fact sheet provides useful information on different types of detergents, common ingredients, fabric care labels, safe usage, and how detergents are disposed of safely into the environment.

Also included is some easy-to-follow advice on laundering the right way.

A 2003 SDA National Cleaning Survey showed that only half of American adults have ever read the directions on a laundry product package.

'Products are changing and consumers have more choices that ever.

Their new fact sheet gives consumers concise and usable information on different types of detergents available in the supermarket,' said Nancy Bock, SDA Vice President of Education.

'And it's a great resource for students looking for fast facts on the ingredients in many detergent products.'

One of the most important pieces of advice Bock has for consumers: 'When it comes to doing the laundry, read the package label and follow the directions on the care tags of the clothes.

Proper detergent dosage leads to cleaner and longer-lasting clothing.'

The Soap and Detergent Association is the Home of the US Cleaning Products Industry, representing manufacturers of household, industrial, and institutional cleaning products; their ingredients and finished packaging; and oleochemical producers.

SDA members produce more than 90 percent of the cleaning products marketed in the US.

The SDA is located at 1500 K Street, NW, Suite 300, Washington, DC 20005.
