Conwy County based Crest Cooperative Ltd. has inked an agreement with the County Council to recycle the household textiles of residents from about 49,000 homes in the county.
As a result, thousands of residents of the county will benefit from the recycling services offered by the company that functions from its office at Llandudno Junction.
At present, Crest gathers household textiles, clothes and paired shoes in purple recycling bags from nearly 30,000 homes through its various textile banks situated in rural areas across Conwy. For every ton of recycled clothing, Crest donates £200 to Conwy schools.
The new deal with the local Council will create two new full-time job opportunities and provide work to eight other people who are unemployed, have limited work experience, or are adults with learning disabilities. It will extend Crest's reach to 19,000 more homes in rural Conwy, who will benefit from the Crest's scheme of collecting and recycling unwanted textiles.
Volunteers who work as sales assistant with Crest sell clothes donated by residents in Crest Community Store. The profits earned by selling good quality textiles at the Community Store enable the Cooperative to create work opportunities for adults with learning disabilities and the unemployed, thus benefiting the local community.
