With a view to hunt for new textile and cotton garment suppliers, a Swedish delegation is paying a three-day trade visit to Ethiopia.

The delegation consisting of members of four leading Swedish textile retail firms is slated to visit textile factories in Ethiopia's Tigray and Addis Ababa, the two regions where Ethiopian textile firms are mainly concentrated.

Several Swedish textile firms perform a chain of operations right from processing raw cotton to production of ready-made garments, while others procure processed fabric to produce end garments.

Ethiopian Government's efforts to prop up the domestic textile industry, past history of mutual trade relations between the two countries, Ethiopia's potential in the area of land availability and logistics facilities for cotton development have influenced the decision of the Swedish textile firms in choosing to explore Ethiopia.

The Swedish delegation also proposes to convene meetings with Ethiopian Government officials and visit the Textile Industry Development Institute.

The visit is seen to further textile firms in Ethiopia with an opportunity to showcase their ability to compete with already established textile firms in Asia and Europe.
