Ecuador's Minister for Industry Santiago Leon and Asociacion de Industriales Textiles del Ecuador (AITE or Textile Association of Ecuador) have agreed to constitute an interagency committee to examine the losses incurred by the country's textile industry owing to illegal imports.

AITE has estimated the loss due to illegal textile imports to more than US$ 100 million each year.

Ecuadorian textile industry contributes over US$ 630 million annually to the country's economy.

The committee will submit a report suggesting effective measures for curbing illegal imports of textiles into the country.
