Uruguayan textile exports hit by Argentine policy

Uruguay Foreign Minister Luis Almargo has accepted that the restrictions imposed by the Argentine Government on import of goods from its neighbouring nation have hit some sectors in the country, including the textile sector.

However, he added that this has not impacted the trade balance between Uruguay and Argentina and it still remains positive for Uruguay.

In spite of trade barriers that block exports and other matters that impact the country's trade relations with Argentina, Uruguay's exports to Argentina grew by almost 17 percent in 2011, the Minister said.

He added that the exports figures of last year are the highest achieved in the past two decades.
