Pak textile workers condemn demand for EOB exemption

The representatives of labour organizations in Pakistan have severely criticised the textile exporters demand to exempt the industry from paying contribution under the Employees' Old-Age Benefit (EOB) Act 1976.

In their joint statements, the worker's union leaders turned down the reasons furthered by the textile industry owners for claiming exemption.

They said that demanding exemption, instead of fulfilling their obligation, is detrimental to the interest of workers, and hence they condemn the attitude of textile exporters.

Lastly, they emphasized that the Government, particularly the EOBI administration, should strictly impose the Act on all industries and private organizations, including the textile industries.

They warned of launching a strong protest if the Government exercises any laxity in implementation of the Act.
