Australian High Commissioner to the UK, Mike Rann, has stated that the relationship between Australian wool and British textile manufacturers will strengthen with a new focus on the fashion industry of Australia.

He said trade relations between the two countries have been going on for over a century now and it will continue to grow, according to a Telegraph and Argus report.

On his recent visit to the Buttershaw base of Bulmer & Lumb Group in the UK, Mr. Rann had meetings with Britain’s wool industry leaders to re-establish the ties between the UK’s local processors and Australian wool.

The Bulmer & Lumb Group is known for practicing dyeing technology which processes batches of fibre dyed to exactly the same colour over many years.

At the meeting, the managing director of Bulmer & Lumb Group, Bill Waterhouse, elaborated on the dyeing and processing company. Mr. Waterhouse said the defense contractors of the UK and abroad demand for a consistency of colour matching to ensure the cloth is exactly the same as it was in 1980, 1990 or 2000. This colour matching guarantee helps them to win business, he added.

Peter Ackroyd, Bradford-based president of the International Wool Textile Organization and executive director of the Campaign for Wool, said there has been a significant increase in production in the local wool industry in the UK, especially in West Yorkshire region.

With more and more fashion and lifestyle enthusiasts opting for natural and sustainable choices, the demand for wool has increased globally, he added.
