Representatives of the Association of Textile Industries of Cibao region held a meeting with the Santiago-based vertically-integrated textile and garment manufacturing company Grupo M to analyze the possibility of developing a joint action plan between the company and the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing sector.

At the meeting, Fernando Capellan, president of Grupo M, submitted a proposal for integration of business operations of textile sector SMEs.

Mr. Capellan said the aim is to develop small businesses in the textile sector by collaborating through an agreement that is beneficial to both the SMEs and the company.

Ignacio Mendez, Dominican Republic’s Deputy Minister of SMEs, who was present as a Government representative at the meeting, said that SMEs form a strategic pillar for the development and growth of textile manufacturing industry.

The new initiative seeks to promote and strengthen the Dominican SME sector through access to a cutting-edge technology platform and innovative practices followed by Grupo M, Mr. Mendez said.

The initiative is an effort made within the framework of the National Development Strategy, being carried out by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

Grupo M has been engaged in apparel manufacturing business since 1986. The company is completely vertical on knitwear from yarn forward and produces garments in a variety of fabrics.
