Spanish textile industry turnover declines 8% in Nov'13

The turnover of the Spanish textile industry declined by 8 percent year-on-year in the month of November 2013, as per the Industrial Turnover Indices (ITI) data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE) of Spain. 
 
The ITI in the manufacture of apparel sector for the month of November also incurred a decrease of 17.8 percent, compared to the same month in 2012.
 
The ITI of the overall Spanish industry, for the month of November 2013, registered a fall of 3.4 percent, compared to the same month in 2012. The ITI recorded in November is one point lower than the ITI registered in October 2013.
 
According to the INE data, sub-sector wise, the highest decline in ITI was registered in the preparation and spinning of textile fibres, manufacture of woven textiles and textile finishing, which recorded a dip of 13 percent year-on-year in the month of November 2013, whereas the ITI in the manufacture of knitted fabrics, carpets, rope, nonwoven fabrics, textile products for technical and industrial use as well as other textile products incurred a fall of 3.9 percent during November, compared to the same month in 2012.
 
Meanwhile, as per the New Orders Index (IEP) data from INE, Spanish textile industry’s IEP recorded a surge of 10 percent year-on-year in the month of November 2013, whereas the IEP of the manufacture of apparel sector plunged by 14.2 percent during the month of November, compared to the same month in 2012.
 
Sub-sector wise, the IEP in manufacture of knitted fabrics, carpets, rope, non-woven fabrics, textile products for technical as well as industrial use and other textile products registered the highest increase with 13.2 percent year-on-year in the month of November 2013, followed by preparation and spinning of textile fibres, manufacture of woven textiles and textile finishing which recorded a rise of 10.5 percent in the month of November, compared to the same month in 2012.
 
The IEP of the overall Spanish industry saw a decline of 5.1 percent in the month of November 2013, which is one and half point below the IEP registered in the month of October 2013.
 
The ITI measures the evolution of the prices of the industrial products sold in the foreign market, and of those originating in the rest of the world, whereas the IEP measures the monthly evolution of the future demand aimed at the industrial branches.
