Spanish textile industry creates 150 new jobs in Jan'14

The Spanish textile industry, including apparel, leather and footwear, created 150 new jobs during the month of January 2014 compared to the December 2013, as per the membership in employment data of the Seguridad Social (Social Security) of Spain, modaes.es reports.
 
According to the Seguridad Social data, the number of members registered in the Spanish textile industry stood at 129,152 in January 2014, which is the best since January 2011. Last year, during the month of January 2013, the Spanish textile sector lost 296 jobs.
 
However, sub-sector wise, in January, number of jobs in the textile sector declined by 0.8 percent compared to December 2013, with a loss of 347 members, and the number of jobs in the garment sector also incurred a fall of 0.3 percent, with a loss of 126 workers, compared to the previous month.
 
The positive trend in employment was observed due to the leather and footwear sub-sector, as employment in the sector increased by 1.6 percent during the month of January, compared to the previous month of December, with an addition of 623 new members in the sector.
 
According to the Seguridad Social data, despite incurring a decline in employment, the Spanish garment sector maintained the first position, with an average of 47,406 working in the sector during January.
 
In December 2013, the Spanish textile industry lost 680 jobs recording a decline of 1.6 percent year-on-year, whereas the Spanish clothing industry incurred a loss of 2,325 jobs during the same month, registering a decrease of 4.7 percent year-on-year.
