Christian and Muslim visitors in Al Shaab Club in Sharjah expressed their resentment and annoyance over the sale of printed religious verses that include the name of God and Jesus Christ on ladies undergarments.

"'For God So Love the World that He Gave His Only Begotten Son' can be written on a respectable object but certainly not on undergarments," said Moza Al Ahmedi, a customer.

She added Muslim sentiments are hurt as they believe in prophets and heavenly books, and the Holy Quran mentions about respect for other religions.

She hopes the concerned authoritys tighten their administration on ports and make sure such items do not enter into UAE.

According to Thomas Jacob, these words are from the Bible and they should not be printed on the undergarments which is not only highly offensive to Christians, but makes a mockery of God.

There are many people who do not understand English and may unknowingly wear it. They would certainly feel bad if they buy the underwear and wear it with God and Jesus Christ printed on it.

Such products made in China should be immediately withdrawn from the markets within the country.

Mohammed Al Imam, Islamic scholar from the Sharjah Islamic Affairs and Auqaf, said that they will not accept any kind of blasphemy targeting any religion. Insulting Jesus Christ is like insulting the Prophet Muhammad .

Sharjah Municipality has promised of taking appropriate action, sources said.
