The production of textile industry in Spain registered a fall of 0.2 percent year-on-year, for the month of March, 2014, as per the latest Industrial Production Index (IPI) data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

According to the INE data, the decline in the IPI registered in the textile sector of the country during the month of March is slightly lower than the 3.6 percent fall recorded during the month of February 2014.

The IPI in the Spanish garments sector also incurred a decline of 4.8 percent in the month of March 2014, compared to the same month last year.

Meanwhile, the IPI of the overall Spanish industry registered a decline of 0.5 percent in March 2014, as compared with the same month of the previous year. The IPI registered in March is 1.1 points below the IPI registered in February, 2014.

The IPI measures the monthly progress and productivity of industries, including extractive industries and the manufacturing sector. This indicator reflects only the quantity and quality of production, eliminating the influence of prices. This methodology is fully harmonized with the European Union countries.
