Organic sarees from Co-optex would soon be available in Kerala as The Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers' Cooperative Society (C0-optex) has signed an agreement with the organisers of the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival, under the department of tourism.

The organic sarees are made using 100 per cent chemical and pesticide-free cotton, and are weaved in Vadambacheri in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore district.

Instead of chemicals, natural dyes obtained from flowers, fruits, leaves and seeds are used for dyeing organic cotton, said TN Venkatesh, managing director, Co-optex, while addressing a press conference in Kerala's Kochi town earlier this week.

Co-optex's online sales have touched Rs 10 lakh since the cooperative tied up with portals like Snapdeal and Flipkart to market its entire range of products about three months back.

In view of the growing acceptance of cotton clothing, Co-optex is planning to introduce some more organic products like linen shirts, kurtis and salwar kameez. (RKS)
