Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has decided to close down about 50 industries located along the Birgunj-Pathlaiya corridor of Prithvi Highway recently.
A few textile manufacturers had earlier shut operation prior to the decision arrived at by the management and trade unions following latter's demand of minimum facilities as per the existing labor laws that failed to hold talks.
Issuing veiled threats to the chamber, trade unions refused to take part in the negotiations for an amicable settlement.
BCCI was left with no other solutions but forced bring the curtains down on the units in order to bring the trade unions back on the negotiation table, stated Sushil Mittal, President of Employers' Council.
