To prevent the tax evasion in leather industry, Livestock and Fisheries Development Minister Joseph Munyao informed that department has formed Internal Container Depot in Embakasi, Nairobi to check export documentation.
This step had been taken following the massive tax evasion scam by exporters during 2002 and 2004, in which Government could have lost sh676 million due to tax evasion.
As per investigations of the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission and Kenya Revenue Authority, exporters use various tactics for tax evasion.
Veterinary department, coordinating with Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) starts monitoring hides, skins and leather, informed Joseph.
