A massive fire destroyed family-owned Clothing Care Center, Inc.situated on Washington Street in Ionia early Tuesday morning.
The flames devoured most of the Clothing Care Inc. facility as several teams of firefighters battle the blaze behind Clothing Care.
Several occupants of a hotel on the corner of Washington and Depot streets were evacuated as flames leapt several stories into the air as the American Red Cross was searching alternative housing nearby.
Due to quick aerial and ground attack by fire engines, the roaring flames that were uncontrollable from the rear of the building threatening businesses on Main Street prevented the blaze from jumping buildings.
Company founded in 1872, now makes a variety of textile products, including restaurant linen, mats and uniforms for some 2,500 customers.
Information was not available on the origin of the fire.
