Output capacity expansion by Gulf Arab countries will make them the producer of 20 percent of world's total ethylene production. It produces around eight percent of world's ethylene output right now.
Secretary General of the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA), Abdullah bin Zaid al-Hagbani informed that Gulf was having 50 percent of world's ethylene projects in its kitty. He estimated the output to reach 30 million tons by 2010.
Hagbani projected that if more opportunities are provided for petrochemical investment, the production in the Gulf will reach 40 percent of total world production in the next 10 years even as Qatar started to prepare US $800 million ethylene cracker unit.
