Leather Institute is on the verge of closure after Government stopped financial assistance provided to it.

The institute, which used to survive on the assistance provided by the Government, has been facing financial crises and was compelled to terminate over six short term courses.

The students enrolled for the courses have being let down by the termination of course.

The grant has been freezed by the Government for past 18 months without any concrete reason.

The short-term courses in stitching, embroidery, leather-cutting, pattern-cutting and many other courses were suspended.

Institute was planning to extend the number of seats in different courses on the basis of placement rate and increase in demand for leather technologists.

The institute is hoping to start its teaching programmes under the World Bank Scheme.
