India is interested in a long-term contract with Syria for import of rock phosphates and phosphoric acid. This was conveyed by the Minister for Steel, Chemicals and Fertilisers Shri Ram Vilas Paswan to the visiting Syrian Foreign Minister Mr.Walid Mouallem who called on him here this morning.
Shri Paswan said, fertilizer consumption in the country is growing and the demand for all varieties of fertilizers like Urea, DAP and MOP is on the rise.
He said, the country is looking for a long-term stable arrangement for the supply of raw materials. He said a long-term agreement will be to the mutual interest of the two countries which enjoy a very friendly relation.
Shri Paswan said, India can also consider strengthening mining infrastructure and help upgrade railways and ports if such a long term contract is worked out.
The Syrian Minister said, he will convey the offer to the concerned Minister and follow it up. Mr. Walid Mouallem said, he is looking forward to increased economic ties between the two countries.
Secretary Department of Fertilisers Dr. J. S. Sharma and other senior officials were present during the meeting.
