Expo-Orissa 2007, a five-day long national industrial fair, scheduled to run from November 2, will provide a communicational ground for both Small and medium sector enterprise (SMEs) in Orissa as well as the mega industries of the state.

Attracted by mutual benefits, SMEs and large scale industries have proposed to commence a joint project in the state.

The Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (MSMEDI) in collaboration with the state industries department, National Small Industries Corporation and Khadi & Village Industries Corporation will host this expo in Bhubaneswar and nearly 250 enterprises are expected to participate in the event.

While the SMEs are anticipated to display their potential and products to the business giants, the big enterprises will in turn decide upon their prospective dealers.

In spite of a massive investment of Rs4 lakh crore in Orissa by industrial tycoons, SMEs find itself a little lost at the prospect of capitalizing on industrialization. Over two thirds of the SMEs units in Orissa account for sick industries and nearly half of these are on the verge of closure.

Processing of goods and retention of interdependency between the large, medium and small industries will be channeled through the Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industries (UCCI) which also plans to set up an engineering cluster at Jagatpur in Cuttack district.
