The Office of State Council recently issued a notice of restriction on production, sale and use of plastic shopping bags, to provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities under direct jurisdiction, and various organizations under direct leadership of the State Council.

The notice pointed out that shopping bag has become a major source of 'white pollution'. The production, sale, and use of plastic shopping bags less than 0.025 mm in thickness will be banned in the whole country, from June 1, onwards.

In the meanwhile, Chinese Government has decided to launch an alternate arrangement for the consumers of plastic shopping bags, which will be executed in all supermarkets, shopping malls, bazaars and retail outlets.
