Investments in mainland China considerably up in June

Taiwanese investments in mainland China amounted to US $997 million in June 2008 according to an announcement made by Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs. It was the second highest investment made in any month of 2008 and led to a growth of 68.38 percent corresponding to the same period in 2007.

The ministry approved a total number of 43 investments in the month of June. In the first six months of the current year, approval was given to 309 proposals for a cumulative amount totaling $4.77 billion.

Most of the investments are focused in Jiangsu province, Shanghai, and Guangdong province and accounted for more than 20 percent of all investments. Off the major approvals given in June, Far Eastern textile, applied for a remittance of US $56 million to its subsidiary in Shanghai.
