Several industrial associations together with some of the political parties and worker's unions, while demanding the Central government to initiate steps to bring down the mounting yarn prices, have resolved to go on a two-day strike on September 24 and 25.

The decision for strike came up as these unions and associations came together at a joint meeting held by the Tirupur Exporters and Manufacturers Association (TEAMA) on September 13, whereby they resolved to observe a 48-hour non-stop strike, September 24 onwards.

They intend to exert pressure on the Central Government, so that it takes necessary steps to curb the rising prices of yarn by restricting cotton and yarn exports.

According to M P Muthurathinam, President TEAMA, they intend to safeguard the interests of the industrial community by means of strikes. The meeting was attended by a many other association officials.
