SITRA, BU to promote innovation & research in textiles

The MoU between the department of textiles and apparel design of BU and SITRA paves way for several activities like computer applications in textiles, students' research, imparting practical knowledge, development of self-employment and conducting seminars, conferences and other activities for betterment of students and society.

KG Senthilvasan, the registrar of the university and senior officer of SITRA power loom centre signed the agreement.

During the recent diamond jubilee celebrations of SITRA, union minister of state for textiles, Santosh Kumar Gangwar said, the textile industry in the south was able to progress because of the work done by the research associations and the ministry will support efforts to take the results of the research activities to all sections of the textile industry.

SITRA is also working with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to come up with improved products in technical textiles. (NA)
