Spain’s estimated annual inflation of the consumer price index (CPI) in January 2023 is 5.8 per cent, compared to 5.7 per cent in December 2022, according to the flash indicator prepared by the National Statistics Institute (NSI). The increase in CPI is mainly due to the fact that fuel prices in January 2023 have risen more than in January 2022 and due to the fact that the decrease in the prices of clothing and footwear is less than last year.

The estimated annual variation rate of underlying inflation (general index excluding non-processed food and energy products) increased five tenths, to 7.5 per cent.

Consumer prices registered a rate of minus 0.3 per cent in January 2023 compared to December 2022, according to the leading indicator of the CPI.
