Switch to district-level e-way bills: CAIT Gujarat

The Gujarat chapter of the Confederation of All-India Traders (CAIT) has demanded that the Gujarat government switch from city-limit e-way bills to district-level e-way bills for goods in transit for textiles and other allied sectors. The Madhya Pradesh government has accepted the CAIT demand and already implemented district-level e-way bills.

The continuation with city-limit e-way bills is proving to be a transport bottleneck for various sectors, particularly the textile industry, CAIT’s Gujarat chapter president Pramod Bhagat wrote to state GST commissioner PD Vaghela, according to a report in a national daily.

CAIT also demanded that like Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, Gujarat should also increase the e-way bill limit from the current ₹50,000 worth of goods to ₹1 lakh. This would mean that only traders who are dispatching goods valued at Rs1 lakh or more would require to generate e-way bills.

Earlier this month, the government of Tamil Nadu provided exemption from generation of e-way bill for jobwork and services relating to yarn, fabrics and garments. On the same lines, CAIT demanded that the Gujarat government should also exempt textile sector from e-way bills. (RKS)
