Turkiye's CPI soars 4.75% in September 2023

For September 2023, Turkiye saw a rise in consumer price index (CPI) by 4.75 per cent from the previous month, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (Turkstat). When comparing with December of the preceding year, the rise was at a notable 49.86 per cent. Looking at the same month of the prior year, an even sharper increase of 61.53 per cent was recorded. Averaging over the last twelve months, the escalation sat at 55.30 per cent.

In a breakdown of the figures, the clothing and footwear category saw the smallest monthly bump, registering a 2.59 per cent increase in September. However, when analysed on an annual basis, this category witnessed a significant rise of 32.54 per cent.

Excluding unprocessed food, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and gold, the CPI saw an upsurge of 5.06 per cent from the previous month, an increase of 54.66 per cent since December of the preceding year, a jump of 67.22 per cent when compared with the same month of the last year, and a twelve-month moving average growth at 57.75 per cent for September 2023, as per Turkstat.
