The eighth round of UK–Switzerland enhanced Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations focused on the role of trade deals in driving economic growth. An upgraded agreement with Switzerland aims to support British businesses, create jobs, and boost household incomes, with a strong emphasis on the £28 billion (~$37 billion) services trade spanning finance, legal, and transport sectors.

Switzerland is the UK’s 10th-largest trading partner, with total trade worth over £45 billion (~$59.4 billion) in 2024, including £18 billion (~$23.8 billion) in services exports, making it the UK’s 6th-largest services export partner. During this round, talks concluded on competition issues, ensuring fair and open markets for UK firms.

An enhanced FTA with Switzerland will deliver long-term certainty for UK services firms, by locking in access to the Swiss market, guaranteeing the free flow of data and cementing business travel arrangements, the UK government said in a press release.

Round 9 of negotiations will take place in the UK in early 2026. The government remains committed to securing outcomes that boost economic growth and will continue to update Parliament on progress.
