US President Donald Trump today announced he has agreed to cut fentanyl-related tariffs on China to 10 per cent from 20 per cent and overall tariffs on imported Chinese goods from 57 per cent to 47 per cent after an ‘amazing’ meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.

Xi will work “very hard to stop the flow” of fentanyl, Trump said, and the tariff was reduced “because I believe they are really taking strong action”.

He also said a dispute between China and the United States had been ‘settled’.

China will purchase ‘tremendous amounts’ of US soybeans and other farm products ‘starting immediately’, and a one-year agreement on rare earths has been reached that will be extended after a year, Trump was cited as saying by global newswires. China will pause a rare-earths licensing regime afterat least a year.

Rated his meeting 12 on a scale of one to 10, Trump said he would be visiting China in April next year and that will be followed by Xi’s visit to the United States.
