Australia’s monthly consumer price index (CPI) indicator rose by 2.7 per cent in the 12 months to August, down from a 3.5-per cent rise in the 12 months to July, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

The monthly CPI indicator for clothing and footwear rose by 1.7 per cent in the 12 months to August, down from a 1.9-per cent rise in the 12 months to July.

The indicator for garments rose by 2.7 per cent in the 12 months to August, down from a 3.1-per cent rise in the 12 months to July, an ABS release said.

The annual movement for the monthly CPI indicator excluding volatile items and holiday travel was 3 per cent in August, down from a 3.7 per cent rise in July.
