Button imports record varied trend

Statistical figures recently released by Vietnamese General Department of Custom show that there was a slight decline in import of buttons for local garment production in October 2007.

Total imports made were worth US $6.6 million, which represented a drop of 11.6 percent compared to the previous month but showed a rise of 17.4 percent over same period 2006.

In the period from January to October, the import figures for the country touched $73 million, up by 45.3 percent against same period, last year.

At the end of October 2007, Vietnam imported buttons from 55 countries, in which Hong Kong remained at top with turnover of $21 million, showing year on year growth of 56.7 percent, accounting for almost 29 percent of total imports.

Other big suppliers are Korea for $15.2 million, with a boost of 26.2 percent, Japan at $11.8 million growing 24.6 percent, China totaled $10.5 million surging 91.6 percent. Few other nations like Latvia, Mexico, Taiwan, India and Macao also contributed to the total imports of button for the country.
