Amazon may come out with its own clothing brand

E-commerce retail giant Amazon has given indication that it may well come out with its own clothing brand.

“For Amazon, we know our customers love brands, many of the brands in this room…and that's where the lion's share of our business comes from,” Jeff Yurcisin, vice president of clothing at Amazon Fashion and CEO of Amazon's Shopbop unit, said at the WWD Apparel and Retail CEO Summit, according to BuzzFeed. “When we see gaps, when certain brands have actually decided for their own reasons not to sell with us, our customer still wants a product like that.”

Yurcisin indicated that Amazon may launch its own private label for those kinds of goods that are not sold on their site but their customers want them. Several fashion and apparel brands do not sell on Amazon primarily due to lower margins offered by the e-tail giant.

Launching its own private-label clothing brand would increase Amazon Fashion's merchandise, which already has products from Calvin Klein, Lee Cooper, Van Heusen, Levi's, New Balance, Steve Madden, Puma, Kate Spade, etc. It would also help it in negotiations with other brands that want to sell their products through Amazon.
