Despite slower growth in the industry, domestic sales of garment enterprises in China (above a designated size) increased 2.3 per cent year-on-year to 397.4 billion yuan ($57.71 billion) in the first five months of 2019, Chinese media reports said quoting data from the ministry of industry and information technology. The data is for 13,631 enterprises.

Meanwhile, these 13,631 enterprises reported combined operating revenues of 621.4 billion yuan, up 2.49 per cent year-on-year. However, profits of these companies declined 1.3 per cent to 30.8 billion yuan during January-May 2019.
